Life From The Futon

I live an odd life. Have been sleeping and waking up on a futon every morning for the last few months, since my bed is kind of being ignored right now for another comfort. There really isn’t that much that wakes me up. I just arise and don’t need any catalyst. I’m 24 years old and in the best shape of my life. There’s no reason for my back to be hurting or my legs to be aching.

Two days a week, I go with my family to donate plasma for money. It’s about an hour drive to the center to go through the tiresome process of kiosk, line, screening booth, line again, bed, needle, and pumping for cash. Been doing that for 4 years now and it never gets old. Since that is my only source of income right now, it is very important that I get up early in the mornings, even if I’m dead tired.

My desire to blog everyday is another reason I am always alert in the morning, ready to find out what’s happening with my blog and what others are doing as well. There’s always something interesting from one of my favorite bloggers when I open up the Reader. I’ll scroll through a couple of posts until I find something that attracts me and maybe visit the post or earmark it for later.

First thought that comes to find is always the daily prompt and if that isn’t suiting me, a random photo challenge. It’s a habit that I’ve gotten into for nearly a year now, starting way last September. It all started when I gave up on ESPN’s Streak for the Cash after losing my streak, and wouldn’t you know it, I played the game again this month and lost after just a streak of 4 correct picks.

I don’t have a job so there’s never any motivation to get up early, get ready, and head off to make the donuts. My parents keep on insisting I get a job and keep looking on the Internet for opportunities. I kind of blame blogging for taking away my time from doing that and other things. My dad knows I blog and has said to get my priorities in order, having better time management. I have tried to take that advice and plan my time better, applying for jobs here and there, keeping up with my emails, spreading the wealth around to other importance.

No Folger’s in your cup for me. I don’t drink coffee in the morning. Even if I didn’t sleep at all the night before, I’m awake and as alert as a bee, ready to get going on whatever the day has in store, which usually isn’t that much. My blog is my passion and it’s usually the center of my day and I’m not going to let anyone take that away from me. If a job comes along, I’ll still find time for it.

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Forward Drive.”

What is the one thing that drives you to wake up in the morning and do whatever it is you do? Is it writing, family, friends, or something else entirely?
