A Christmas Story

For the second time in my life I took the long train ride to Janesville, Wisconsin to see my oldest sister. This time it was during the Christmas holidays, where a large fully decorated tree sat in the lobby of the old Michigan Central Railroad station. As was before, we stopped at the Union Station in Chicago and boarded a charter bus to Wisconsin, which was packed and full of frequent bathroom goers (the facility located at the back of the bus). Ended up in the same hotel as the last couple times as well, the Baymont Inn and Suites, in which the luxurious hot tub was broken this time, but still warm enough to put our feet in.

The continental breakfast is always a scrumptious affair at the Baymont. The question of the day written on the board in the front lobby elicits discussion. Getting to sleep in an actual bed is great as well.

Victory Lane

transam
The object of life is to come in first
Get behind the wheel, quench your thirst
Racing the asphalt, so hot under sun
Outlasting your competition, the battle be won
The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat
The beauty of it all
Is so bittersweet
And now you are
In the driver’s seat
A whole lot of options
As life continues on repeat

Supermoon

jh

Behold, the Supermoon
The one we’ve been waiting for
Years in the making
A shiny bulb on the shore
Now closer than ever
You can clearly see
That this moon is special
Shining, big and bright
Like a lighthouse across the sea

But tonight
I was crudely disappointed
That the Supermoon they had hyped
Was nothing more than the usual
A tiny dot in the night

Might as take pictures from before
And call them the Supermoon
Because there’s nothing really new
The old bore since June

Coin Chaos

coinpile.jpg

Here is a huge pile of change that I have been collecting for the last three years, dumped all over a mattress for this top down shot. That is over $50 in change right there (outside of the picture’s frame as well). I have a feeling that as soon as I get to about $100 in change, I’ll cash all of the dead president coins in and feel accomplished that I was able to generate that much money from pinching pennies from the carpet and emptying whatever loose change from a dollar was in my pocket.

Scrape the Skies

building

This is a tall building I saw today that I don’t really know the purpose of. It supposedly is an apartment or office complex. A flag waves way up high along with some satellite and antennae used to pick up television and radio signals. The architecture of this building looks like it’s from the early to late 1950s when buildings like these sprung up everywhere as cities were quickly developing and people were leaving the countryside.

Locally Fresh/Shiny

Locally fresh donuts. The glazed chocolate variety.

So much shining change in this money drop game that I finally won at (but it didn’t count because I needed to use a nickel).

Into deep blue
I sink my feet
The all day pain
Washed away
Clear blue
A refreshing fusion

The quest for rain. Will it ever come? The umbrella will tell the tale.

Hopscotch

The edges of the hopscotch squares, the mirror of a childhood pastime. Many different countries play this game and the rules are slightly different in some, as a video I found explains.
