December

Another cold one in December

Winter’s icy horses rushing in

But I’ve got my bags packed

For warmer weather

December will not win again

My Unorthodox Christmas

So Christmas has come and gone
Another run of cheer in the books
It was a wonderful time this year
Even though we went about it with different looks

See, we didn’t open our presents today
Saving them for New Year’s Eve
While everyone else is throwing away wrapping paper
We still have gifts to receive

Instead of rejoicing
And singing candid Christmas carols
We decided to play a raunchy card game
And make all sorts of creative perils

And even though
There’s no snow
Far and wide as the eye can see
My unorthodox Christmas
Had still managed to make me happy

It will come again next year
As the family gets smaller
And drifts further apart
That will correlate with a barer tree
Looking so skinny, now that’s just for three

To cope with the sadness that years together are dwindling
I have to believe
That somewhere in this world
Is the starting piece for a new family
That the traditions will continue
Anew and better
That my kids and their kids
Will carry on the name
Keep on the happiness that
Comes in this game
And celebrate these great holidays
Full of love and cheer
Have their own unorthodox Christmas
Never have anything to fear

And I won’t be lonely
Will have someone always there
To share and build a well of memories
And have the dearest opportunity to share

Christmas Spirit

The time comes around every year, I feel a bit less sad

The trees are lighting up, the ornate garland making cats mad

Houses are glowing boastfully, neighbors basking in the shine

Santa Claus is in the air again, kids and adults are enjoying the time

Holiday music, cliché and new

Bells ringing, change rattling

Caring, sharing for the few

Still no snow this year though

Christmas light fights, putting on a show

As the years roll on, presents become less important

The time to spend with my dearest family, comfortably gazing in the twinkly assortment

It’s too bad this time only comes around once a year

Because the day after, people are sick and tired of the nutty cheer

The reality sets in, the expensive gifts becoming a burden

Mad verbal fights ensue, resentment spreading from the torn worded

But I am happy my close clan does not worry so much about the material gains

Because what really matters is the Christmas love pouring down like it rains

Merry Christmas to everyone who cares to believe

That this magical time every twelve months has the power to heal, give us one more chance to breathe

If you don’t have the heart to believe

Then just skip to a Happy New Year

And be happy you get to start all over again

Forget all the mistakes

And try to make it the best year there’s ever been

The Ultimate Photo Journey

When’s the last time you followed your instinct despite not being sure it was the right thing to do? Did it end up being the right call?

It was a crazy idea

Actually quite brilliant

Sitting at New Year’s Eve

Excited about a fresh start

And a thought came to me that

Was full of fine art

I had the instinct

To take 365 pictures

One a day, no more, no less

And explore my creative interests

Venturing on this quest

Was easy at first

But then the days got faster

And I was dying of photo thirst

My instinct told me

It would be beneficial in the end

Because I have learned so much

And have achieved picture zen

The quest is nearly over

Has been a long ride

Yes, there were a couple times I slid

But, man I have developed one fine eye
