Share Your World 2016 Week #47

What are you grateful for in regard to:

Your home life?

My home life is very peaceful and cooperative. No fighting or voice raising. We mostly stick to doing our own thing.

Your family?

Great family but can be a bit unorthodox and strange especially when dealing with strangers.

Your blogging community?

The community has been largely supportive of me over the years contributing with all the likes and comments. It could be way better though but I am grateful that at least a handful of people care about my work.

I’ve slipped up a bit on blogging connections and lost a ton of readership and site traffic. Hopefully I can get things going again once I get a new burst of energy or maybe I shouldn’t make a big deal about it. Blogging for over three years has a way of making you lose focus because it seems to be a means to an end with no definite goal in sight.

Your city or immediate area in which you live?

That it is mostly small and quiet and easy to live in. Working class people going on about their normal, average lives.greenland

The regional area in which you live?

There is lots of farmland and vegetative land. Manufacturing is a big industry around here. I’m grateful that jobs are starting to pick up again.

The country where you live?

The United States is one of the greatest places to live but we are not without our problems including debt and racial hatred.

You?

I’m grateful that I am such a nice person and one who easily forgives others for their mistakes.

A class you wish you would have taken?

I wished I would have taken a class on how to draw. Maybe I still can. I can say that I am only good at doodling and drawing random sketches. I’ve always wanted to draw characters like on The Simpsons.

What’s your favorite comic figure and why?

I don’t really read comics but I would say that my favorite is Batman just because he’s the only superhero that doesn’t have any actual superpowers but relies on his smarts and wit, like I do…because I’m Batman.

Name something you wish you could like.

 Politics!

Tell me about your first crush / first date / first kiss.

My first crush was one of unrequited love. No matter how hard I tried to get her attention she just wouldn’t notice me. Now my first kiss reminded me of Doritos.

Who was your best friend when you were 10?

I had about three good friends that I invited to my birthday party once. Out of those three friends, one of them I used to constantly chase on the playground.

What sign are you? Do you believe in astrology?

Well, I was once a Virgo but after NASA recently changed the signs of the Zodiac, adding a 13th to appropriately match the number of constellations in the sky, I am now a Leo. But after reading another article, I found this was just a misunderstanding. NASA didn’t change the signs, they just did the math and found the Babylonians got it all wrong 3,000 years ago, publishing their findings in a blog post. I don’t really believe in astrology but think it is a fascinating topic to explore.

Image result for pet rock

Have you ever owned a rock, pet rock, or gem that is not jewelry?

I’ve owned a bunch of rocks, a whole box of them I found in a lake. Pet rocks were a popular fad back in the 1970s, being sold in boxes at the store and people were dumb enough to pay for one. The Pet Rock company started by Gary Dahl made him an instant millionaire, but not without backlash and threats from buyers at him at how they were duped into such a ridiculous scheme.

What is your greatest strength or weakness?

My greatest strength is not caring what anyone says. I’m my own person. My greatest weakness is being able to play sports.

What makes you feel grounded?

Being at home or at least in a place that doesn’t feel like a prison.

Would you rather never be able to eat warm food or never be able to eat cold food?

I would get tired of eating cold food after a while and wouldn’t want to live without a warm meal once in a while.

List 2 things you have to be happy about?

A good family and having a steady income now that allows me to buy the things I want and not depend on others so much.

If you could take a photograph, paint a picture or write a story of any place in the world, what and where would it be?

Image result for egypt

I’d write about Egypt and the pyramids I suppose.

Should children be seen and not heard?

It depends – if I had children. They shouldn’t bother older people and stick to doing their own thing but every once in a while a kid can be good company.

List at least five of your favorite first names.

Brianna, Ashley, Jordan, Justin, Bianca off the top off my head.

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?

I haven’t had a whole lot of jobs, but one of my first was gardening and taking care of my grandma’s various flower beds. This included pulling out weeds and crabgrass. She would pay me $10 each week for this.

What is your favorite month of the year?

Definitely July. It marks the beginning of the second half of the year and you can always sense the tinge of summer in the air.

What three things in nature do you find most beautiful?

  1. Birdsong
  2. Rippling ponds (sometimes with geese)
  3. Lighthouses by the ocean

List at least five of your favorite spices? (excluding salt and pepper)

  1. Oregano
  2. Chili Powder
  3. Cilantro
  4. Lemon Pepper
  5. Nutmeg

What is your favorite go to beverage?  Water, coffee, tea, coke, soda (non-alcoholic)

Water or tea. I don’t like anything too acidic. Coffee is just bleh.

  • Can you change a car tire?

Never have so I wouldn’t know how, but it would be good to know how in case of an emergency on the side of the road.

  • Are you a listener or talker?

Definitely a listener though I can talk someone’s arm off in certain situations, usually when provoked

  • Would you rather have no internet or no cell phone?

I can go without a cellphone but being without the Internet would be difficult because of having no contact with the outside world and missing out on important events.

What household chore do you absolutely hate doing?

Cleaning the bathroom most definitely. Especially on a hot day. It’s not that hard to clean because it’s so small, but I would rather be doing something else. Like working on my computer! Blogging, watching videos, playing games, etc.

What was the last URL that you bookmarked?

This one’s easy. Looking under the Bookmarks slideout in the options menu of Google Chrome, I see that I bookmarked the page to edit my Instagram profile, because I hate having to actually go to my Instagram page and take the extra steps to edit.

Close your eyes. Listen to your body. What part of your body is seeking attention? What is it telling you?

Okay, this is some form of meditation. It’s kind of weird because I don’t usually do this…but, I’m listening closely and – I guess it’s my stomach? It’s feeling a bit full after I ate some sloppy joes.

Would you rather have a two-bedroom apartment in a big city of your choosing or a mansion in the country side in the state or country where you currently live?

A mansion in the countryside of Michigan. I prefer the quietness and the scenic view. Though I don’t know what I’d do with a huge mansion with 25 bathrooms and bedrooms. I don’t even know that many people.

  • As a child, who was your favorite relative?
  • If you could be a tree or plant, what would you be?
  • What would be your preference, awake before dawn or awake before noon?
  • Would you like to sleep in a human size nest in a tree or be snuggled in a burrowed spot underground?

The Answers:

1.  My favorite relative was definitely my grandma Norma, who used to look after me all the nights while the girls were out at dance class. She had iced tea, beanie babies, and a big box of toys that I liked to get into. She died in 1999 before I barely got to know her though.

2.  I’d definitely be a tree, so I could see over everything and be the supplier of food for the humans and other animals. Even if they chopped me down, I’d still be reincarnated as paper and glue!

3.  I’m a night owl, so awake before dawn. I like to be alert of all things going on.

4.  My favorite way to sleep is being bundled up in a cozy space, tucked away in a corner, lights down low, so I’d definitely be burrowed in the ground like some hibernating animal. I’d be too out in the open and exposed in a human sized nest, which sounds really absurd.

Favorite thing to photograph? Write? Or Cook?

I usually like to write about key events in my life or memories that have been in the back of my mind for years and have been yearning to be developed beyond their abstract forms. Those memories that are mere fragments turn into full blown stories when words hit the screen.

Did you like swinging as a child? Do you still get excited when you see a swing?

I absolutely loved the swingset. It was the first thing I’d runswing.jpg to when it was time for recess. Swinging was a way for me to be beside myself, since I was usually very, very quiet and loved to think and ponder about many things. I used to be scared of going too high on the swings, by myself or someone pushing me, afraid of going over the top bar, but now that I’m older I guess everything is more in perspective. Whenever I see a swing on the playground, just sitting by itself, I get nostalgic feelings.

What has surprised you about blogging?

That there are so many talented and passionate bloggers out there and that blogging has actually led to bigger and better things for some people. That this is more than just a hobby for some has really surprised me. I mainly started this as an online journal for myself, but my ultimate goal was to turn it into a sort of creative space for ideas to form, which has so far been realized.

List at least five favorite desserts.

My list is fairly simple, nothing too fancy:

  • Cherry cheesecake
  • Tiramisu
  • Chocolate pudding
  • Banana creme pie
  • Rice pudding

Share Your World – 2015 Week #49

2016 is coming up in a hurry. Let us enjoy the last couple of weeks in this year that has seen many tragedies and many triumphs. Behold another  Share Your World.

What would be your ideal birthday present, and why?

A new professional quality camera because I’m tired of the one I have now. I would also like a new guitar – and the natural born skills to play it like a star!

What color would you like your bedroom to be?

All black with dark furniture all around. I would love a room that I can feel like getting lost in. The dark tones would go well with the lighting and would make sleeping that much easier.

Would you prefer snowy winters, or not, and why?

Yes, because that is what winter is all about. A winter without snow is kind of sad and disappointing. All the time I was growing up, there was at least a foot of snow by this time in December. Now, the snow is coming later and later each year and disappearing quicker than before. I like to walk outside and see the world blanketed in all white. It’s a really beautiful sight.

Would you rather go a week without bathing, but be able to change your clothes, or a week without a change of clothes, but be able to bathe?

Definitely the second option – I couldn’t stand not being able to bathe because I take a shower every day. I could definitely wear the same clothes as long as I didn’t sweat too much or get into a muddy accident.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week, my sister and her boyfriend came down from Wisconsin to spend the holiday season with us. I am looking forward to our “second” Christmas with more gifts, because we all just opened our presents today with the two having to go back in a couple days and not spending actual Christmas here.
